Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Hunnewell
What is the DEI Committee?
A group of parents working to increase awareness about DEI, support Hunnewell families, provide educational opportunities, and promote a community of belonging.
The DEI Committee invites you to participate in our February Challenge! We've planned a whole month of programming to promote learning and engagement around the topic of race, and we'd love for all members of our community to get involved.
The pinnacle of the Challenge will be six days of short activities scheduled for February break. They are all free, accessible remotely, and recommended by experts in the field. We encourage you to do as many of these activities as you can with your children, and to use the provided resources to continue conversations around racial identity at home.
Community Art Project
Our month-long challenge will culminate with a community art project. We will send index cards home in backpack mail, and the final day of the challenge will give children a chance to draw a mini self-portrait on that index card.
After winter break, send your children back to school with the self-portrait celebrating their unique identities, and we'll add it to our bulletin board. There, we'll see everyone climbing a hill together (a reference to the call unity in Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb") and we'll take time to reflect as we continue to learn and grow together as a community.
Parent Discussion Groups
All are welcome and we hope many members of the Hunnewell community will attend!
